L-Carnitine Tartrate

L-carnitine is a non-essential nutrient as it is produced by the body from the amino acids lysine and methionine. It transports long-chain fatty acids that are released from fat tissue into the mitochondria where they are oxidized for energy production. However, muscle carnitine levels are rapidly depleted during exercise and it are those carnitine levels that determine how much fat can be used for energy production. That is why athletes need more l-carnitine and those levels can be increased by correct supplementation. Take a dose of 3000mg per day for longer period of time and always in combination with a meal that contains carbohydrates.⁽⁴⁾ The advantage of taking it with a meal is that it doesn’t affect calorie-intake.
